You used to get a steady stream of matches. But lately? Nothing. Crickets. You swipe until your thumb goes numb, but your match queue is a ghost town.

You might assume that the local dating pool has dried up, or that you suddenly became invisible. But the reality is often much more technological: You might be shadowbanned on Tinder.

What is a Tinder Shadowban?

A shadowban is when Tinder restricts your profile's visibility without actually telling you. You can still open the app, swipe left and right, and send messages—but nobody else sees your card in their deck. You are essentially swiping into a void.

Why Do People Get Shadowbanned?

Tinder hands out shadowbans to protect its ecosystem from spam and abusive behavior. Common triggers include:

  1. Aggressive Swiping: Mass right-swiping on 100% of profiles (bot-like behavior).
  2. Account Deletions: Frequently deleting and recreating your account to get the "newbie boost" will flag you.
  3. Reports: Getting reported by multiple users for inappropriate messages or misleading photos.
  4. Third-Party Apps: Using auto-swipers or unauthorized location spoofers.

How to Test if You Are Shadowbanned

There is a simple test. Log out of Tinder and move to a highly populated area (or tweak your distance settings). Delete your account and set it up fresh (if you dare), OR simply buy a Tinder Gold subscription for a short period.

If you drop a Boost in a major city center on a Sunday evening and get absolutely zero likes in 30 minutes, you are almost certainly shadowbanned.

How to Fix a Shadowban

There is no quick fix. You essentially need a hard reset:

  1. Delete your current Tinder account.
  2. Uninstall the app.
  3. Wait at least 3 months (Tinder retains data according to GDPR and privacy laws for about 90 days).
  4. Get a new phone number (Google Voice sometimes works, but a real SIM is better).
  5. Create a new Apple ID / Google Play account.
  6. Crucial: Use brand new photos. If you re-upload the exact same photos, Tinder's image recognition AI will link you to the banned account instantly.

Avoid the shadowban entirely by playing by the rules, swiping selectively, and using high-quality, authentic-looking photos from day one.
