Malaysia Passport Photo Size (35×50 mm) Online Maker

Make a 35 × 50 mm Malaysia passport photo online in minutes on a plain white background. This format is taller than the 35 × 45 mm most countries use, so the crop matters more than the file size.

Malaysia Passport Photo Requirements

Prepare a recent colour portrait before you begin. Malaysia uses a 35 × 50 mm rectangle rather than the ICAO 35 × 45 mm one, so a crop borrowed from another country's template will come out short at the chin.

01 · Photo size & digital dimensions

Print format
35 × 50 mm (3.5 × 5.0 cm), portrait, colour.
Proportions
7:10. A 35 × 45 mm crop is 5 mm short and shows less of the shoulder line.
Digital submission
The Immigration Department publishes the print size; the online renewal portal shows its own upload limits on screen.
Before exporting
Read the output dimensions rather than relying on a DPI label or a file name.

02 · File format & print finish

Accepted formats
A colour JPG or PNG image, whichever the form or portal accepts.
Hardcopy
Print on photo paper at 100% scale; office paper shifts skin tone and softens the hairline.
Upload tip
Send the original camera file, not a screenshot or a copy forwarded through a chat app.

03 · Background & lighting

Background
Plain white, uniform, with no shadow behind the head.
Blue background
Some visa channels accept plain blue. That is a different document — do not reuse it for the passport.
Lighting
Even light on both sides of the face; no glare on the forehead, no shadow under the eyes.

04 · Position & expression

Pose
Head and shoulders square to the camera, eyes level, shoulders visible.
Expression
Neutral with the mouth closed; eyes open and looking at the lens.
Framing
The face fills most of the frame with a small margin above the head — the extra 5 mm of height is headroom, not background.

05 · Glasses, hair & headwear

Eyes
Both eyes clearly visible; the fringe must not reach the eyebrows.
Glasses
Allowed only without tint and without reflections over the eyes.
Headwear
A tudung or head covering is accepted for religious reasons, with the whole face visible from the chin to the hairline.

06 · Recency & natural appearance

Photo age
Taken within the last six months and recognisably you today.
Editing
Cropping, resizing and background replacement are fine; reshaping the face or smoothing skin is not.
Practical tip
Turn beauty mode and HDR off before capture; retake rather than retouch.

07 · Taking a photo at home

Phone photos
Ask another person to take the picture from about 1.5 m rather than using a selfie.
Camera setup
Lens at eye level, timer on, flash off, rear camera if you have a choice.
Clothing tip
Wear a dark or coloured top so the shoulders read against the white background.

08 · Final check before submission

Review the image
Zoom in on focus, the eyes, and the outline of the head and shoulders.
Review the file
Confirm the exported file is 35 × 50 mm at the print scale you will use.
Acceptance
The Immigration Department makes the final decision; follow its instructions if a replacement photo is requested.

A simpler way to prepare your photo, wherever your next trip takes you.

01

At home, on your schedule

No appointment or trip to a photo studio. Start with a photo from your phone.

02

Your face stays yours

Cropping and background removal preserve your original facial features.

03

Measurements you can see

Review head height, eye position and photo dimensions before downloading.

Why do passport photos get rejected?

The right size is only the beginning. These issues may need a new photo, not another crop.

01

Blur or beauty filters

Cropping cannot restore missing detail. Start again with a sharp, recent, unfiltered portrait.

02

A cropped head or shoulders

Retake the photo with room around your head and shoulders. Do not generate missing body parts.

03

Shadows, glare or hidden features

Face soft, even light. Follow your authority’s rules for glasses, head coverings and expression.

04

The wrong document or submission route

Printed and online applications can use different specifications. Check the document, dimensions, pixels and file format.

Customer reviews

Megan H.

“Honestly, this was much easier than I expected. I took the photo at home, adjusted it using the guides, and had everything ready in just a few minutes.”

Chris P.

“The size and positioning guides were really helpful. I could see what needed fixing right away instead of guessing whether the photo would meet the requirements.”

Nina Patel

“I was a little worried the editing would make the photo look unnatural, but it still looks completely like me. It just fixed the framing and dimensions, which is exactly what I wanted.”

J. Romero

“Saved me a trip to a photo studio. I took a few pictures on my phone, picked the best one, and got the passport format sorted at home.”

Theo

“Simple and straightforward. The final check made it much easier to confirm the crop, head position, and spacing before I saved the photo.”

Hannah W

“I’ve tried other passport photo tools before and they felt way more complicated. This one was quick, clear, and didn’t over-edit my face. The finished photo still looked natural.”
