What is an aspect ratio?
An aspect ratio compares width with height. A 16:9 image is 16 units wide for every 9 units of height. It describes the shape, not the number of pixels.

How do I convert a ratio to pixels?
Height = width × ratio height ÷ ratio width. For 16:9 at 1920 px wide: 1920 × 9 ÷ 16 = 1080 px high. 1280 × 720 has the same ratio.

Cropping or resizing?
Cropping changes the frame by removing edges. Resizing changes pixel dimensions. Keep the same ratio when resizing to avoid stretching; use cropping when you need a different shape.
